Cruise Critic Announces Best Cruise Ships Of 2012

December 6, 2012

Cruise Critic, a popular resource for cruise ship reviews and news, has announced its Editors’ Picks Awards, recognizing the best lines and vessels in the cruise industry. The list is sure to spark the interest of cruise lovers far and wide, but while many of these ships stood out for their innovations, it is important to exercise caution when it comes to traveling aboard any of these vessels. Our cruise lawyers have seen our fair share of accidents at sea, so while it is important to have fun and enjoy all that these vessels have to offer, it is equally important to be cautious in order to avoid accidents at sea. On this point, the book “Unsafe on the High Seas,” which is available in digital form from Amazon, iTunes and Nook , can be potentially very helpful.

The 2012 Editor’s Picks Awards list includes 18 categories, with 12 different cruise lines receiving accolades. The winners are:

Best New Ship: Carnival Breeze – Carnival Breeze is the latest Carnival Cruise Line vessel to set sail. The ship has a tropical theme and embodies many “Fun Ship” favorites while showcasing new restaurants and entertainment options.

Best for First-Timers: Norwegian Cruise Line – Norwegian Epic, the line’s newest vessel, and the Jewel-class series of ships offer the industry’s largest selection of restaurants, a great kids program, and huge spa and fitness complex.

Best Value for Money: Carnival Cruise Lines – It’s no surprise that Carnival would receive this award. The line has consistently offered exciting cruise itineraries while keeping prices affordable. Now, Carnival has added more bang for the cruise goer’s buck, introducing an array of new features for travelers to enjoy as part of the fleetwide Fun Ship 2.0 overhaul.

Best Shore Excursions: Disney Cruise Line – Disney has always been one to “go big or go home,” and dedicates itself to creating unique “port adventures,” with tours that cater to both adults and families.

Best U.S. Port: San Francisco – While many may be shocked to see the award go to San Francisco instead of Miami, the city has been a longtime contender as one of the country’s best ports. But now, new efforts to improve its waterfront and terminal, combined with the city’s own sightseeing options, have led San Francisco to take the gold in this category.

Best New River Ship: Viking Cruise Line’s Longships – The first six of Viking’s revolutionary Longships debuted this year, offering guests several amenities and state-of-the-art features to enjoy.

Best River Cruise Line: Uniworld River Cruises – Excellent service, lavish décor and superb cuisine are just some of the many reasons why Uniworld has been set apart from other river lines.

Additional winners include:

Best for Luxury: Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Best for Families: Royal Caribbean International
Best Itineraries: Azamara Club Cruises
Best for Adventure: Lindblad Expeditions
Best Dining: Oceania Cruises
Best Entertainment: Royal Caribbean International
Best Suites: Oceania Cruises
Best Inside Cabins: Disney Cruise Line – Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy
