Ricardo V. Alsina
Ricardo V. Alsina is an active trial attorney and maritime lawyer at Lipcon, Margulies, Alsina & Winkleman, P.A. Mr. Alsina has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1991 and has been a member of our elite team for over 16 years. Mr. Alsina has earned a Martindale-Hubbell rating of AV – the highest rating for legal ability and professional and ethical standards in the industry.
As an experienced maritime lawyer he has litigated robustly in the areas of cruise ship personal injury, cruise ship rape matters and wrongful death claims. Although both the law firm and Mr. Alsina focus on maritime related matters, he is also experienced and proficient in handling a number of personal injury areas including aviation disasters, automobile accidents, medical malpractice and class action civil lawsuits. He takes great personal pride in the level of professionalism he provides to his clients, often providing his own personal telephone and email contact information so that clients are able to access him whenever necessary.
Education and Background
Mr. Alsina graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. in 1984. He graduated from the St. Thomas School of Law after earning his juris doctorate in 1990. Since 1984, Mr. Alsina has been a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Honor Society. He is actively involved in the local community and regularly participates in efforts to help the community.
Mr. Alsina embraces a diverse international background, having spent a better part of his formative years in Argentina, Venezuela and Thailand, among other international cruising hotspots. In this regard, Mr. Alsina is a key asset in our maritime law firm practice. He brings the experience, language and culture of those regions of the world to bear for our international clients from the Pacific and South America, and clients injured aboard ships in those parts of the world, offering our clients a unique advantage in their cases.
Mr. Alsina is a member of the Florida Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association, the American Association of Justice and the Florida Admiralty Trial Lawyers Association. He is certified by the Supreme Court of Florida as a Circuit Court Mediator.
Mr. Alsina is a central figure in our team of maritime lawyers and is admitted to practice before all state-level courts in the Florida State Judiciary, and to all the United States District Courts for the State of Florida as well as the Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Alsina summed up his philosophy towards representation succinctly in a recent interview:
“There is no greater satisfaction for a trial lawyer than to go in with all the odds against you – the big name firm on the other side, the case law supposedly “black-and-white” that you are supposed to lose – and your argument and your creativity and your hard work turns it all around and you make new law and you are able to help your client.
