As a maritime law firm committed to keeping cruise passengers safe, we tend to report on issues of personal injury and death. While these may not be the most uplifting of topics, we believe it is important to keep you informed and up-to-date on the industry and issues that the general public often does not know about it.
That said, we are always glad to be able to report on events that have happy endings, or even better, events that are positive, all the way around. So today, we are excited to be able to bring you big news that should brighten up your week. What’s so exciting, you ask? Well, the world’s largest cruise ship was just christened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Future Of Cruise Luxury Is Here
This new ship, the Harmony of the Seas, belongs to Royal Caribbean. The Harmony is 1,700 tons larger than it’s predecessors. And with a passenger capacity of 5,497 people, it holds 100 more passengers than any ship before.
The ceremony for Harmony of the Seas took place at Port Everglades and had all of the pomp and circumstance that one might expect. A series of buttons and robots were involved to release a bottle of “Sovereign” size champagne that traveled down the ship’s zip line to smash into the steel name plate located above the pool deck.
VIPs, media and travel agents watched the ceremony on giant TV screens onboard the ship, adding to the allure and excitement of the day, while artist Jon Secada sang the national anthem. From the robot—the first time ever one has been used in a christening ceremony—to the special guests, it was all around a festive occasion.
So what can passengers of the Harmony expect? With a nine-deck water slide and features from the Quantum-class ships, there is no doubt that this is going to redefine luxury for all future cruise lines. This ship also happens to be 20% more energy efficient than any ship before it, which raises the bar not only for comfort but also for environmental consciousness, moving forward.
Suffice it to say, passengers are in for an incredible voyage when they set sail on this ship, which will call the Fort Lauderdale port its home, all year long. This is big news and may just be one more reason to decide to book the cruise vacation you and your family have been contemplating.
