Charles R. Lipcon Receives AV Rating for 37th Consecutive Year

Charles Lipcon, the firm’s founder and one of the top maritime attorneys in the United States, is one of our attorneys who have received this honor. Attorney Lipcon has more than 52 years of experience, specifically focusing on maritime law cases. During these decades of experience, he has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for clients of the firm, including in landmark cases.

One of these notable cases includes a $25.8 million verdict for an engine room worker burned in an engine explosion on a freighter ship. Mr. Lipcon has also built a number of landmark cases against major cruise lines such as Carnival, some of which have established or changed past maritime law. These changes have since improved the rights of workers and passengers to receive compensation following an accident. Not surprisingly, Mr. Lipcon has achieved this award every single year consecutively since 1987.

Jason R. Margulies Receives AV Rating for 21st Consecutive Year

Our firm is proud to announce that Mr. Margulies has again received Martindale-Hubbell’s AV rating — an award he has received annually since 2003. Attorney Jason R. Margulies is a named partner of our firm, beginning his tenure as a law clerk for Charles Lipcon in 1992. Attorney Margulies is a board-certified expert in admiralty and maritime law and has over 30 years of experience litigating maritime personal injury cases. He specializes in handling cases seeking compensation for victims of  cruise ship rape and sexual assault, personal injury and wrongful death of cruise ship passengers and crewmembers, as well as recreational boating cases.

One of Jason Margulies’ most notable cases involves the sinking of the Tote cargo ship, El Faro. Those cases arose from the 2015 tragedy when the El Faro encountered Hurricane Joaquin while sailing from Jacksonville, Florida on its way to Puerto Rico and sank, killing all 33 crew members, including the captain. Mr. Margulies was entrusted by the crew’s families to  represent more of  the deceased crew members than any other lawyer in the world.

Carol L. Finklehoffe Receives AV Rating for 16th Consecutive Year

We are also excited to announce Carol Finklehoffe as a recipient of this honor. Finklehoffe is one of our partners,  bringing 30 years of experience in state and federal court across the US. Her expertise includes co-authoring the chapter on personal injury and wrongful death for maritime workers in the 7th edition of the Florida Bar maritime law and practice manual.

Attorney Finklehoffe has won massive verdicts for personal injury cases, including a $15.5 million verdict, but one of the critical strengths of her experience is the decade she spent as a defense attorney for cruise lines, ship owners, and operators.
