In an effort to prevent tragic drowning accidents across their fleet of ships, Norwegian Cruise Line announced on Wednesday that certified lifeguards will be at all family polls on their ships starting in the next year.

The first responders, who will all be trained by the American Red Cross and work during all scheduled pool hours, will first begin on the company’s four biggest ships – the Escape, Getaway, Breakaway and Epic – this summer and will be on the remainder of Norwegian’s fleet by 2018.

“While parents are always the first line of supervision when it comes to water safety, we felt it was important to provide this added measure across our fleet,” said Andy Stuart, president and chief executive officer, in a statement.

Parents will also be able to obtain a complimentary swim vest during daytime pool hours for adults and children as part of the new safety plans.
