Today is a historic one for us here at Lipcon, Margulies & Winkleman, P.A., P.A. It is with great pleasure that we announce our fourth consecutive selection (and national ranking) as a 2019 Best Law Firm by U.S. News and World Report, for Admiralty and Maritime Law.
This — in and of itself — is a significant achievement and we are grateful to have been recognized by peers and clients as a truly industry-leading firm on a nationwide level.
In conjunction with the August selection of four of our attorneys (Charles Lipcon, Jason Margulies, Ricardo Alsina, and Michael Winkleman) to the 2019 Best Lawyers List,
LM&W, P.A. is the only plaintiffs’ cruise law firm that is nationally-ranked in admiralty and maritime law, with four attorneys also named to Best Lawyers.
We believe that there is real value in these awards, as they serve as a mechanism for highlighting firms that provide exceptional, client-oriented legal service. This makes it easier for prospective litigants to secure the high-quality representation necessary to effectively take on cruise lines, ferry operators, and other defendants. Though there is more to choosing a firm than awards and recognition, our selection is proof of our commitment to compassionate representation and litigation excellence.
Best Law Firm and Best Lawyers Criteria
Best Law Firm is an award granted by U.S. News and World Report. In naming a Best Law Firm for a particular category, U.S. News and World Report sends out evaluation forms to millions of attorneys and clients. These evaluation forms give peers and customers an opportunity to praise or criticize various aspects of the firm, from expertise to communicativeness to costs, and more.
Best Lawyers is an independent publication with a similar evaluation form system, though the attorney must first be nominated by their peers before they are evaluated (in confidential surveys). Best Lawyers selection is granted on the basis of peer evaluation — not client evaluation — so the recognition is focused on the high quality of the attorney work-product.

This media visibility not only helps us to inform the general public about how they can stay safe and take action to secure compensation for their injuries, but also makes us known to opposing counsel, helping level the playing field in litigation with a large corporate defendant.
We Can Help — Contact Us for Experienced Legal Guidance
If you or a loved one has been harmed in a cruise ship, ferry, or other boating accident, then you may have a right of action for damages. Maritime and admiralty disputes — particularly those that involve claims brought against large corporate entities, such as cruise lines (which bring in billions in annual revenues) — can be complex. Cruise lines and ferry operators have substantial resources at their disposal and, in many cases, may attempt to force you into dropping the case or accepting a minimal settlement.
Given these challenges, it’s absolutely critical that you work with a team of experienced maritime lawyers that have a proven track record of success. Results matter, and so too does reputation.
Here at Lipcon, Margulies & Winkleman, P.A., we are recognized leaders on the national level. Opposing counsel know who we are, and that’s mean good things for you — the client. Thanks in part to our reputation for thorough and relentless advocacy, we can more effectively negotiate on your behalf. Should trial litigation be necessary, we are willing and able to aggressively represent your interests in the courtroom.
