Recent Sunscape Hotel Accidents

The following are just a few examples of the types of accidents that have occurred at Sunscape Hotels.

Elevator Accidents in Mexico

When boarding an elevator, you have every right to expect that you will be safe. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Per the Trip Advisor review, a guest:

crashed 6 floors in the elevator to the concrete bottom in the hotel of Sunscape Dorado Pacifico in Ixtapa, Mexico on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014… (2 days earlier,) my husband and I and 4 other people got stuck in the elevator for about 10 min. You could hear the elevators constantly not working due to the bell ringing sound. Then 2 days later, I was coming from the 21st floor or top floor down to the lobby floor using the glass elevator, I only pushed one button — lobby — when at about the 14th floor, it started to go somewhat faster and then passed the lobby to the lower concrete floor, making a very loud noise and causing me to fall to the floor inside the elevator leaving me stuck inside it. I hit the floor hard and hit my elbow and left shoulder quite hard and fell on my back.

The review goes on to discuss the fact that the hotel staff was hesitant to file an accident report and, while they were attentive to the injured guest, did not take comprehensive action to ensure that the guest’s legal options were prioritized. Had these injuries been more serious, the situation could have been much worse than it was.

Connecting with an attorney as soon as possible after an accident is crucial, as it can be difficult to obtain evidence and eyewitness testimony after the fact. If you or a loved one has been injured in an elevator accident at a Sunscape Hotel, our experienced personal injury attorneys can help. We have a long history of success handling these types of cases, and we will fight to ensure that you are fully compensated for your injuries.

Woman Dies in the Dominican Republic From Lack Of Prompt Medical Care

In May 2018, a guest died of kidney failure in a Dominican hospital after suffering from food poisoning for a week while staying at Sunscape Bávaro Beach Punta Cana.

Emergency responders were told about Donette’s kidney issues, but she was brought to a hospital without a dialysis machine, her sister said. The hospital told her relatives it was too late to take her elsewhere. “They basically let her die on the table,” her sister said. Dominican officials performed an autopsy that found the cause of death was kidney failure. “Their conclusion was renal failure, but it never addressed what initially got her sick in the first place,” Johnson told The Post.

In a case such as this, where the medical emergency may have been induced by other factors — in this case, questions about food safety arise — it can be difficult for victims or their surviving family members to connect the two when working to prove liability. This is where an experienced personal injury attorney can be invaluable. If you or a loved one has become ill while vacationing at a Sunscape Hotel, our attorneys can help you investigate the cause and hold the responsible party accountable.

Woman Sexually Assaulted By Hotel Employee in Jamaica

After being sexually assaulted, the last thing a victim wants to hear is “go home and forget about it,” but that’s exactly what an Atlanta mother heard after suffering a sexual assault at the hands of a Sunscape Splash employee in October 2018. She was persuaded to sign a non-disclosure agreement and manipulated into not pressing charges because of how lengthy and expensive the criminal process would be. When you are represented by the industry leaders at Lipcon, Margulies, and Winkelman, P.A., you can stay focused on moving forward from such a horrific event while we handle your case.

These are only a few examples of the types of accidents that can occur at a Sunscape Hotel. If you or a loved one has been injured in any type of accident while vacationing at a Sunscape Hotel, our experienced personal injury attorneys can help. We have represented many clients who have been injured while vacationing at Sunscape Hotels, and we are familiar with the unique challenges that these cases can pose.

Proving Liability In A Sunscape Hotel Accident

If you or a loved one has been injured while staying at a Sunscape Hotel, you may be wondering if you have a case. To prove liability in a Sunscape Hotel accident, you will need to show that a hotel employee was negligent in some way and that their negligence resulted in your injuries. For example, if you were injured in an elevator accident, you would need to show that the hotel employee responsible for maintenance failed to properly maintain the elevator, which resulted in your injuries.

Your attorney will use a number of methods to determine what went wrong and how it happened, including reviewing security footage, statements, police reports, medical records, interviewing witnesses, and hiring expert witnesses. Once liability has been established, your attorney will work to get you the compensation you deserve for your injuries.

About Sunscape Hotels

Sunscape Hotels & Resorts is a chain of all-inclusive resorts owned and operated by Apple Leisure Group. Sunscape Hotels & Resorts is geared towards families and caters to guests of all ages with a variety of activities and amenities.

Sunscape Hotels & Resorts has a number of locations in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Curaçao, each of which offers a different experience for guests depending on the type of getaway they are looking for. What nobody looks for in a hotel, though, is a staff that covers up sexual assaults, elevators that are poorly maintained, or other significant examples of negligence that can lead to serious injuries.

While Sunscape Hotels & Resorts is a relatively new company, it has already been the subject of several lawsuits. In 2018, a woman staying at the Sunscape Splash Montego Bay Resort in Jamaica was sexually assaulted by a hotel employee. And in 2019, a mother from New York died while vacationing at the Sunscape Bávaro Beach Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic.
